Breakout is held at Bourton Meadow School every Friday night during term time (except when the staging is up in the school hall). It costs just £1.50 per week (pay as you go!) and we do run a membership scheme which costs £5 for the whole school year but then it is only £1 each time the child attends.
Breakout is for children in Year 1 - Year 6 (from any school)
and runs from 6.30pm until 8.00pm.
We have a wide variety of things going on through the evening including:
- Free play - we begin with a time of play which the children can choose what they would like to do. We normally have a game of football going on, the basketball nets are up for shooting some hoops, we have the big skipping rope out and the hula hoops, there are board games, card making, beading, face painting, snooker, air hockey and of course the obligatory game of tag going on somewhere! The children play with all ages and of mixed abilities and we are always open to suggestions from the children about any new games they would like to play.
- After this we have our Time Out where we break down into our smaller age groups and have a 15 minute time of reading a bible story and asking/answering questions. At the beginning of last year the children memorized all 10 commandments in one term... ask them to see if they remember them now - you might be surprised! Time Out enables the children to have some quiet time during the evening and to be in a smaller group with a group leader where we can share the bible with them whilst get to know them a little better with not so much noise going on!
- We then have our Tuck time - the children are allowed to bring 50p for sweets and then an extra 30p for drinks if they want to buy a fruit juice (water is available to the children all night long on tap!). Whilst they are munching they can choose to either sit and chat with others or come and do the craft time.
- Craft Time - every week we have our half hour slot for craft where the children can come and do the craft activity. Some of the things they make are amazing!
Finally we finish up the evening with some big group games like dodge ball or playing games with our huge parachute. Quite often the children don't want to go home as they're having so much fun!
Our aim at Breakout is to provide a Christian based youth group for primary school age children, that is not only fun and teaches them a little from the bible, but also encourages them to interact with other children of all ages in a safe and caring environment.
Family Events
Once a term we have our infamous Family Events: Light Fantastic (Nov), Eggstravaganza (Easter) and Summer Spectacular (June) where the whole family is invited to come and join us for an evening of fun, games and food. These are always wonderful evenings where families just spend lots of fun time together and we always have games and prizes too. Make sure you look out for details.
Breakout is run by Buckingham Evangelical Church (based in the Well St Centre).
